Our Ministers

Until an Interim Minister arrives, the spiritual needs of First Church members and friends are being served by ordained ministers who are already part of our community:

The Rev. Leonora Montgomery

The Rev. Adam Robinson

The Rev. Bob Tucker

They plan Sunday services and preach at some of them.  They also preside at weddings, baby dedication ceremonies, and memorial services.  In addition, they are available for counseling and work with the Board of Trustees, Program Council, the Care Team, Befrienders, Chalice Circles, and other groups and committees to ensure that the work of the church continues.  What follows is a brief introduction to our in-house ministerial team.

Leonora Montgomery earned a doctorate in Religious Studies from Rice University in 1985 and was ordained by Emerson Unitarian Church in 1987.  She also holds a B.A. in Political Science from Wellesley College.  She is Minister Emerita of the Bay Area UU Church and has also served Emerson and Thoreau UU congregations.  Other denominational activities include serving on the Southwest UU District Board, the Board of Meadville Lombard Theological School, and the UUA Presidents Council.

Adam Robinson graduated from Lincoln Christian College and Seminary, with degrees in Ministry and World Missions and Church Growth, specializing in urban sociology.  He was ordained in 1992 by the church of his childhood, Maple Lawn Christian Church.  He served the Inner City Missions, Inc. in Springfield, Illinois, and worked as chaplain for the McLean County AIDS Task Force.  In the 1990s, he served as Director of Worship and Celebration for the Metropolitan Community Church of the Incarnation in Oak Park, Illinois.  Adam has been the volunteer affiliate minister at First UU Church for three years and helped coordinate responses to hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Bob Tucker earned graduate degrees from the University of Chicago, the University of Minnesota, and United Theological Seminary.  He has been interim minister in Minnesota and Kansas, has served churches in South Dakota and Houston (27 years at the First Congregational Church) and is an Affiliate UU Minister.  His most recent community involvement is on the board of Justice for Children. That was preceded by being a Child Advocate and on the board of the Houston Area Women’s Center.  He is also the Executive Director of the Foundation for Contemporary Theology.
