The choir singing at our winter concert
 |
|
The Choir sings at the second service most Sundays, 11 months a year, including two Music Services that are dedicated almost exclusively to music and often involve the performance of major works with the assistance of guest instrumentalists and soloists.

Choir Tours. The choir, accompanied by family and friends, has taken two tours to Eastern Europe, in the summers of 2003 and 2006 which involved visits to Prague, Budapest, and several Unitarian congregations in Transylvania, including our sister church in Arkos. We sang for services and in concert settings, including at the Palace of Culture in Targu-Mures/Marosvasarhely. The second tour included the wedding in Arkos of our former music director to a Transylvanian Unitarian who had served as a translator for part of the 2003 tour! The tours were open to all members and friends of the church.

What is expected of choir members? Attendance at rehearsals
Thursday evenings plus a brief warm-up and one service on most Sunday mornings
are the critical elements. Since we all have many professional
and personal demands on our time, the policy on absences is
lenient. So long as you can make enough rehearsals and Sunday
services to learn the repertoire and become a part of the
ensemble, you will be a valuable asset to the choir. The
only vocal or musical requirement is that you be able to match
pitch. If you can sing "Happy Birthday" with a
group of people and not get odd looks because you are off
in left field somewhere, you qualify! Very few in the choir
are trained musicians, and many do not read music. Love of
music and the desire to work with a group of delightful people
to create it for the congregation is really all we ask. |
