Organizations Supported by the CIC

CIC currently donates to the following organizations:

  • Emergency Aid Coalition ministers to homeless, hungry, and helpless persons through a food pantry, clothing center, free sack lunch, Aid to Families office, and Operation ID. First Church and nearby churches together founded this organization 20 years ago. Their coalition operates out of 5501 South Main, 713-522-0667.
  • Interfaith Care Partners teaches member congregations, including our church, how to form Care Teams to care for congregation members who cannot take care of themselves. www.interfaithcarepartners.org
  • Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston serves children, seniors and refugees. First Church is a member congregation of this regional association of churches. www.imgh.org
  • Center for Healing of Racism serves as a catalyst for the healing of racism through the education and empowerment of individuals especially through acclaimed Dialogue Racism series. www.centerhealingracism.org
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center serves inner city minorities with a day care center and transitional living for the formerly homeless. It is located in the Third Ward at 2720 Sampson.
  • Good Neighbor Health Clinic gives health services and well child services to low income people including those not served by Harris County. It is located just west of downtown on West Gray.
  • SEARCH serves homeless people by providing the resources necessary to become productive citizens. Services include job training, housing, and outreach to folks who don’t come to them. www.searchproject.org
  • Habitat for Humanity brings families and communities together to build affordable housing. www.houstonhabitat.org
  • Peace Camp is a summer camp that offers non-competitive games and related activities that teach peace. It was originally founded by church member Lynn Furay and with help from other First Church folks. Now it is an HPJC project.
  • Houston Peace and Justice Center unites peace and justice organizations for networking and mutual benefit. Its office and library is at 2115 Taft in the Ecclesia complex in the Montrose. www.hpjc.org
  • Child Builders - Parents Under Construction provides innovative programs to educate parents, children, teachers and the community about the emotional well-being of children and their families. www.childbuilders.org
  • Until You Can Fish - Services to the Homeless is a project of church member Chris Fitchner to help the homeless keep from having their money and ID stolen by giving them fanny packs. She learned the need for this while her daughter was homeless. 713-649-3570
  • H.A.T.C.H. (Houston Area Teen Coalition of Homosexuals) empowers, supports and serves people 13-20 years old. www.hatchyouth.org
  • Unitarian Universalist for Drug Policy Reform is a national organization that leads our denomination’s efforts to develop and promote more just and compassionate drug policies. www.uudpr.org
  • Houston Area Women’s Center empowers women to improve their lives. It provides shelter and support services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. www.hawc.org
