Leadership Development Team
Nominations Needed for the Board of Trustees
In June 2012 four of our current Board members will end their three year term of service. This means that at the Annual General Meeting of the congregation, scheduled for late May, four church members will need to be elected to serve on the Board of Trustees starting July 1st.
This year, to better prepare candidates to serve on the Board and to help shorten the learning process that newly elected Board members have faced in past years, our current Board of Trustees has developed a Leadership Orientation Program. While focusing on preparing First Church members for serving on the Board, this Leadership Orientation Program will be broad based enough to help anyone further develop their leadership skills.
To allow enough time to complete the Leadership Orientation Program we need to have our 4 nominations for the Board by mid-January, 2012. To this end, your Leadership Development Team will have a table in Channing Hall on Sunday, December 11th and Sunday, December 18th to take your nominations. We’ll have copies of the Job Description for serving on the Board, along with Nomination Forms for FY 2012-2013. These documents will also be available from the Church office or you can download them below. The DEADLINE to turn in NOMINATIONS for the BOARD is SUNDAY, JANUARY 8, 2012.
The Leadership Development Team's Functions and Members
The Leadership Development Team has two main functions. The first, which is determined by our constitution and required by the Board of Trustees, is the nominating function. For this function, the LDT ensures that a slate of candidates for the Board of Trustees and Leadership Development Team are brought to the congregation at the annual General Meeting held each June. The process of finding and choosing candidates is clear and transparent. The candidates are interviewed with careful consideration. Once chosen, the church announces the names of the candidates well in advance of the General Meeting. The second function is to create an environment that supports personal growth and opportunity for members, one aspect of which is growing leaders. With this, the LDT makes volunteer opportunities known, provides training when needed and communicates opportunities for leadership conferences to the congregation.
The LDT is composed of three members elected by the congregation plus one past President of the Board and one current Board member. The past President and current Board member are chosen by the Board.
The LDT's current members are:
- Connie Acosta - Board Representative
- Peter Durkin - Past Board President
- Jon Naylor
- Linda Richardson
- Cindi Walker
